Stroll being good is the best hope for Williams future imo (even if it means becoming Stroll's team).

If he's average/bad the questions of "is it worth it in the end?" will start popping up soon.
If he's doing well... Daddy might even pump up some more money into the team.

Gone: Bernie Ecclestone, Colin Chapman, Enzo, Luca di Montezemolo, Ron Dennis, Tyrrell, Brabham, Briatore, Ligier, Walkinshaw, Gurney, many other giants.

Still there: Frank Williams.

https://twitter.com/ams_formula1/status ... 7061966853 From what I read (understood): no impediment for Lowe to come to Williams.
Looks like right now it is a negotiation dance between Lowe an Williams at the moment.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

My understanding is most F1 contracts contain clauses which prevent the employee from working for a competitor for a set amount of time after leaving their current employer, often referred to as gardening leave, unless the employer specifically waives this. This is to protect intellectual property rights and is quite understandable given the history in F1 of people taking technical info to other teams.

Form all reports it appears Paddy Lowe's contract with Mercedes contained such a clause and unless Williams managed to use the Bottas deal as leverage to get Merc to allow Lowe to join Williams early then he will have to wait before joining them

If Paddy was going to RB or Ferrari then no amount of money on earth would persuade Mercedes to end his gardening leave early. But Williams F1, all respect to them, are not currently competing for world championships and are therefore no real competitior to Mercedes. In a perfectly rational world it should be possible for Williams and Mercedes to successfully negotiate Paddy's immediate availability.

If Lowe tends his garden until mid-year then I think upper Merc management, perhaps higher than the F1 team, decided to make an example of Lowe to reduce the inevitable mega-offers and exodus that occur at any successful team.
