I would say the real difference between the two are about 30 laps (that really matters).
You can probably discount the whole Jerez test as i doubt the drivers will have much to learn when the whole team is just trying to make the car run.

I've read in the forum that Hamilton says he feels more comfortable with the brakes now. Does anyone have a direct quote ?

Damn you, because of your post, I just spent close to 180 GBP on Hamilton fan gear.... :D
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

So, gearbox change at Mercedes. Not the best way to start the final day of testing.

Well, that would just be awesome but I cannot see that big of an advantage, certainly not when teams are having the same engine. But I [-o< for this any time, Hami is long due a dominant car. Let's hope merc can give him this. So far the're heading into the right direction. =D>

Uhh... I don't think Mercedes will be quite as far ahead as that. In fact I think Ferrari and McLaren will be pretty close. Also there are a few reliability problems cropping up. Mercedes have reason to be proud of what they have accomplished... but I don't doubt that they are as worried as the rest as to whether they are completely ready.

I don't think the reliability issues are anything to worry about. They have asserted several times that they were running parts for as long as they possibly could, just to see when they'd break. Parts breaking after running for 6 race distances is not unexpected.

I wouldn't be so sure of that:

and

Plus, if they finish in Melbourne, they might brake down in Sepang...

I bet a good number of cars don't finish the first few races, not many other teams have managed to put in consistent race distances like Mercedes. Look at Red Bull, even on their best testing day they would have struggled to finish a race and that's without pushing.

True that, a lot of cars will brake down. I hope merc won't be one of them but we do stand a better chance than Red Bull or the other reno-powered cars.

If Mercedes dominate this season, I hope they get consider getting Ross Brawn up on the podium. Is that out of the question?

As much as I like Toto Wolff, and Paddy Lowe, it's fairly clear that the current professionalism and performance are a product of a process that Ross Brawn began in 2011 with the hiring of Bob Bell, and then Costa and Willis.
