You only have to see that the top 3 WCC teams are all participating in this test to show that it is clearly preferable to be involved.
The other Teams simply don't have the Money to develop a Test Mule. And seeing last Year it is better for Pirelli McLaren is not Part of these Tests. The last thing Pirelli needs to develop the Tires are lost Days due to a Car not running because of some little niggly issue the Car was so attracted to last Year.
I agree, there was no point for both McLaren and Pirelli in doing this tests. The 2015 Honda PU is way down on power compared to the 2017 units that will push next year cars, it's super unreliable and I don't know if Honda actually have any "unexploded" unit.

Force India's Andy Green doesn't agree with McLaren...

“ The three teams that have built test cars for Pirelli are getting a huge advantage. All the others will only get their first experience early next year of what Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull are getting now.
If we had the $2 million (to build a test car), we would have done it. We thought about it but in the timeframe it was simply not possible to do at the same time as our race program,” he said.

All of the data is shared with the rest of the F1 teams, plus all of the teams who are not present have their representatives overthere, the only obvious loss is the direct driver feedback which can be very valuable.

All we have to do is make sure we are 110% ready when 2017 testing starts so that we can do required laps per day - 120 minimum - and gather all the data required.

I also think Pirelli will be behind in their development and the compounds will not be done by the end of the year.

So it must be an interview with Lewis Hamilton then? =P~ (Sorry, couldn't resist)

In my opinion it's a good read, thanks for sharing

That's because FI's 2015 car had a 2015 Merc not a 2015 Honda. Testing a '15 Honda powered car would be nice exercise in frustration and futility, though.

Really? I would be happy with 100% and put the 10% extra into something else?

When you say "we" does that imply you work for McLaren?

I think McLaren can surpass Williams and Force India as far as raw pace is concerned (as they've shown to be capable to be the 4th quickest team at specific events), but ending fourth in the constructors championship is a mountain too high to climb. They'll end in 6th.

Why do you think that? They've been awfully quiet lately, so we don't know what they're up to. It all depends on how much the updates will improve things. If it earns them a second, it's going to make things interesting to say the least(podium chances). If it gives them .5 getting 4th is still doable with 9 races remaining, as they'll be comfortably ahead of everyone except Ferrari Mercedes and Red Bull. It may even be enough to hold off Ferrari. If the current performance stays the same I'm guessing then yes, getting 4th probably won't happen as there will be some races which will not suit them, and McLaren is not a team that executes perfectly. One of the drivers always has a problem.
