What are you talking about? This has been the norm for the last couple years.

In a hybrid car it should be impossible to match a qualifying time to a race time. Secondly, the qualifying laps are set on an almost completely traffic free lap while from lap 5 onwards in the race they were lapping GT and LMP2 cars pretty much every single lap. The Porsche pace throughout the entire race varied from ~1.38 - 1.41, only 2 seconds away away from their ultimate one lap only pace, all the while lapping multiple GT cars per lap which are 30 seconds a lap slower than them. The Audi's and Toyota had a similar spread to their ultimate one lap speed. The days of babying the car are over.

I must say, now that we've seen a few of the 2016 GTE cars I'm a bit disappointed.. .

..when I heard about the new rules I was hoping the cars would look a lot more extreme... kind of a mix between sports cars and DTM... like my mock-up below.... maybe next time...

I prefer the conservative looks of the street versions for GTE. We have the protoype classes for exotic looks. I wish they held them closer to the street platform as well.

I actually totally agree; for me the best era for sportscar racing was the mid nineties GT1 (the Porsche GT1 mk1, Mercedes CLK-GTR)... I wish the top class looked more like that today... Maybe then we'd see an F488 "GT1" like my image above... And GTE could stay as it is...

So the 919 will be designed with a much larger cockpit in future?

I know this is a joke, but while the cockpit wouldn't be any trouble, the seat might be.

Anyways, the 18 car hasn't had much luck lately.

How do they plan on enforcing power limits?

maybe the same way V8 SuperCars do - they have a measuring device attached to the crankshaft of all competitors which measures power and torque which is then logged by the Standard ECU. (sorry I cant find a link to it atm but have seen it shown on broadcasts)
