yep, drum brakes have the fading effect due to the heat expanding the drum. all the sophisticated active suspension and braking systems that enhance safety and become available for truck and tractor trailers now are based on disk brakes.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

I would say the next step will be the multi disk aircraft style brake
