Question about Chassis Construction of a Formula 1 car

hello everyone,
i would like please to know about the holes indicated in this picture http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/ ... o9shhb.jpg

are they made on the original plastic model and then molded or are they cut after the composite cockpit has been built and finished ?

From my experience with pre-preg id have to say they are molded however there would still be some cleaning up of the holes once the part is released.

aha great ! so they clean it with a disk cutter, i was wondering about it because as we know making holes into composite material will make it weaker

The holes in the front is for the attachment of the suspension cage and front wing/crash structure.

The two large holes in the top are for team members to get their hands in the tub.

The holes in the side are the flexure mounting points for the suspension.

thank you Graham for your reply, but what do you mean by suspension cage ?
about the holes for the team members it's the easiest to make probably and the exact factor is not critical for it but for attachment points it is

In this photo of a Caterham monocoque mould, there are some protrusions in the area that the front suspension would be. Are these related to the suspension cutouts, or are they for something else?

The suspension cage is where the brakes, power steering and suspension is mounted. Generally a mass of load bearing struts it looks like a cage.

The suspension cage is where the brakes, power steering and suspension is mounted. Generally a mass of load bearing struts it looks like a cage.
you mean the front part of the cockpit which surrounds the pedals included the crash structure in front ? to which are all the elements you named attached ?
