Complete agreement humble sabot - Incredible imagination, creativity and execution, a lot to admire - body, chassis, wheels and suspension, all made of - wood. I'd describe them as material heretics and design subversives.

Modesty. With the knowledge, almost everything is 'Do-It-Yourself' practice. I think we can all do just about anything -- except maybe commercial aircraft control and brain surgery. :D Hope you enjoyed the links :D

Wow. Talk about

everything old being new while going well beyond convention. The "Splinter" truly has potential of showing just why it is important to venture into seemingly irreconcilable design challenges every once in a while - the point being that such projects are as much about what you expect to find as what you don't expect to find. More than learning, it's producing something to learn. I remember pointing out that not many cars really "do" it for me ... well, this one has that potential and I do hope to see it on the road some day.

Hi,
Not sure if there is still much intrest in this but I see the links are dead and it dates back a while!
We have a small group (Southern U.K) who have been thinking of doing somthing along the lines of a 'free-for-all' car development.
The 'Open Source Super Car Project' has been going for a while but we don't really have much in the way of stuff on paper or names on a list!
For those intrested we have a board set up at
http://www.punbb-hosting.com/forums/ossc/index.php
which is a start..
Cheers,
