NOSE ELEPHANT EARS - AUSTRALIA , MALAYSIA & BAHRAIN
Image
The elephant ears were not used

NOSE ELEPHANT EARS - SPAIN & TURKEY
Image
The elephant ears don't generate significant downforce, but instead help divert airflow horizontally, improving the quality of the airflow directed to the car's rear end and to its sidepod inlets

NOSE ELEPHANT EARS - FROM MONACO

Endplates were added to the elephant ears so as to further improve the airflow towards the sidepod inlets and the rear of the car.

They're all over the place with mods trying anything & everything to improve the car's aero performance. They don't seem to understand the car and their knee-jerk reactionary add-ons seems like the kind of things an inexperienced design team would be doing. I bet the drivers can't wait for the season to end.

Increase air pressure? Wouldn't that cause alot of induced drag?

It is simple , satisfying the cooling needs is greater than a little drag increase caused by the increaced air pressure at the sidepod air inlet .Moreover , as a side effect , the cooling sidepod vents and chimney opening can actually decrease in size in favour of aero performance .

In a car that has a relitivly poor level of downforce, and a car that since Australia has been given the approach of "downforce at any cost", whats a little more added drag???

BARGEBOARDS DETAILS
LAUNCH

AUSTRALIA TO G. BRITAIN
Image
1. The saw-tooth profile at the bottom of the barge board features dramatically reduce turbulence, and therefore improve both cooling and airflow management close to the sidepods
2. Smaller set of bargeboards inside the critical area of the front wheels
3. Horizontal turning vane , manages airflow passing under the car
4. Triangular fin with. Its function is to reduce vortices in this area and improve airflow around the lower section of the sidepods
5. The cut edged profile at the upper side of the main board helps reducing turbulence and improving engine cooling
6. Wing-like element on the top edge of the small bargeboard, designed to help raise the pressure of air passing towards the bottom of the car
7-8. Horizontal arched section , provides channel for the airflow around the lowest section of the barge boards. This generates a sort of Venturi effect that not only provides slightly more downforce, but more importantly speeds up the airflow in this area so as to increase the extraction of air from under the front wing's main profile, hence improving its efficiency
9. The cut edged profile at the upper side of the small board helps further reducing turbulence

FROM GERMANY
Image
Extended sidepod panel extending from the elongated panel towards the barge board . The connection to the bargeboard forms an aerofoil that direct air towards the ground, while another small winglet attached to the barge board does exactly the opposite.

^^ :)

I saw in another forum a pic of a more sculpted nose camera... it seems that it was of no value :(
