Australian GP 2009 ( finally! )

For ease of use, there is one thread per grand prix where you can discuss everything during that specific GP weekend. You can find these threads here.

I'm not saying either of them was not worth it, but I think Brawn GP DID dominate this GP as much as some people are reporting.

Using that logic, a team like Toyota never really showed 100% of their true pace, as both Toyotas at different points in the race were stuck behind slow traffic. Glock near the end of the race did show to be one of the fastest on super-soft tires. Trulli also in second half of the race was showing pace similar to Barrichello.

I'm sure Brawn did not push 100% as they were likely concerned with reliability and tire usage, among other things.

It doesn't really matter in the end though; Australia is not representative of other races in the season. Also regardless of which teams were pushing 100% and which were not, what counts is the race results.

The comments supposedly coming from a 'Brawn insider' I think should be taken with a grain of salt. Even if they could have been faster, perhaps their reliability would have suffered or their tire usage would have been bad. To put it in other words, if the Brawn car has more pace but that compromises the tire usage as well as reliability we may never actually *see* that pace from the Brawn car.

Regardless, we shall see in Sepang a more accurate pecking order.

Well, obviously you and I define the word "dominate" differently..
According to "Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictioncary", dominate = to have control over a place or a person, or to be the most important person or thing.
So, I would say by qualifying 1st and 2nd and finishing the race 1st and 2nd, Brawn GP dominated the Australian GP!
But you're right, it doesn't really matter that much as we have a full season ahead of us, so hopefully Ferrari will dominate in Malaysia (or at least perform as well as Brawn GP did in Melbourne)!

Agree with you on Brawn's dominance. What MORE COULD they have done?! Hope you're right about Ferrari in Malaysia.

The current issue of F1 Racing magazine, which was published before this years Australian GP, says that Kubica has never finished an Australian GP. And oddly enough he didn't finish last weekend either!

That loose wheel posed a serious danger had it come detached (something that was all too common with the team's 2008 car), and could have seriously if not fatally injured a marshal/spectator. We should always be looking to make the sport safer and feel that Red Bull have lost the respect of at least one F1 fan this weekend - I can't see why more people haven't picked up on this.

I do agree that he should have immediately parked the car. A car that damaged has absolutely no reason to be on the track. I did praise Vettel in his willingness to persevere, to keep going no matter what. That characteristic I admire. But the kid has to be reined in, and his youthful aggressiveness controlled whenever it is required. I hope that someone gives him a serious talk. But I lay nearly all the blame on the team. They should have been screaming on the radio the second it became apparent Vettel was continuing on.

Now about Honda. This is a manufacturer who has contributed greatly to Formula One. They started in 1964, and won their first race back in 1965. They withdrew as a manufacturer in 1968, but returned in 1983. Their engines were instrumental in providing six constructor's championships, as well as five World Driver's Championship. Their recent history is known by almost all, from the involvement with BAR to their withdrawl just recently. And what is very important, the car now known as Brawn was totally funded by Honda. And considering that Honda has provided enough funds for Brawn to continue racing for the remainder of this season, that speaks strongly about their taking care of their responsibilities. The decision made last year to withdraw from Formula One was a corporate decision, it had nothing to do with racing but instead dollars and that all-important corporate bottom line.
Yes, Honda did not enjoy much success lately, and the last two years were total disasters. But Honda is a company I have respect for, they have contributed much to the glorious history of Formula One. And as an act of class, Honda sent Brawn a congratulation for his success in Australia. For a company that conducted themselves with class over all these years, they do deserve more respect from fans.

I think they just did not have the right people. Motor racing is a lot more about having the right people who can get you the right machinery. If you have the people, you can work on developing the right machinery. If you don't have the people, I don't think you can develop decent machinery.
When they got Brawn on board, I knew they were going to be on top soon. I was surprised it was this soon. But they did work well last year and had they stayed, they would've reaped the fruit of their hard work and failures over the years.
I think that if the financial crisis was "delayed" one year, Honda would be in F1 this year, winning apparently. And when the financial crisis would come "next year" they would have reason not to withdraw from the championship.
But things don't always work out. They'll be back soon in my opinion.

Exactly, that is why Brawn was brought on board.
