I have to say Islamatron this is by far and away my favorite post from your good self, and possibly one of my favorite ever. HAHAHA. Congrtulations on acheiving 'Master', I was a little unsure if you were going to get barred, or bored or whatever for some time but with one liners like that I have to admit, you have a gift.

On the subject of this topic, I think the last ordinary man bought a team into this sport something like 30 odd years ago, and even those few were either very weathly, very well connected or had put in a lot of graft already. The ones that are still here today like Frank and Ron have proven by their ability to survive, by rapidly adjust their outlook and infrastructure to whatever the current climate demands whilst balancing the books, reigning in shit for brains drivers and keeping an eye on the prize, that they were never really that ordinary in the first place. :).

Anyone need an 'ideas' man without a degree? No? I'll carry on emptying the bins then...

To put it simple McLaren was around before Ron Dennis (they had afew bad seasons i think around the 79 season). Ron was running an successful GP2 team called Project 4 and it joined McLaren who was being run by Teddy Mayer but he left and Ron Dennis pertty much ended up being in charge. Both McLaren and Project 4 were sponsored by Marlboro so thats how the first car became the mp4/1 (Marlboro Project 4)

and now it means Mclaren Power. Apparently. Isn't Ron just the majority share holder of the Mclaren Group to be technical? Don't Merc have a share too?

On topic though. Most teams now will buy out other teams so all the equipment, factories, staff etc are there. Hence why EJ talks about Force India have jordan DNA. Its just the same foundation being sold over and over.

yeah i ment Ron Dennis ran the F1 team. I think Merc has 40%, Dennis has 15% and that guy who owns TAG who got the porsche turbo engine for McLaren owns 15% and not sure about the other 30%. Not 100% sure on that though i could be wrong lol. So basically to get a f1 team going it could be handy to have mega rich people around you lol

The remaining 30% is owned by "Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company" who are stupidly wealthy. I only know this as they bought that amount of Ron Dennis and Mansour Ojjeh (the TAG guy) a couple of years ago. I think they bought 15% of each of them to make their 30%... but I may be wrong.
