Seeing the new layout i suppose that there wont be any major changes on the aero setup...Maybe a bit less wing (?) for the new sections ,which with the right hander at Abbey chicane being a flat out, so now it makes 2 extra straights...But then again comes tha triplet Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel where you need that extra downforce...Im no aero specialist i guess we'll have to wait and see...

New pits for 2011-2013 seemingly, but then going back to the traditional pitlane for 2014 as the same architect that designed the Suzuka pit building has been contacted for consultation on a design, as silverstone want to be the first track in Europe that can do the same as Abu Dhabi, and run 2 races together at the same time one 2 diffrent tracks, one the Stowe cuircit and one on the National cuircit.

any setup changes will be minor probably limited to rear toe changes, to help come out of the slow corners on the infield, aerowise I don't see a reason to change anything

Silverstone works near completion

Work on the new grand prix circuit at Silverstone is nearing completion, the British Grand Prix organisers said on Tuesday.

The multi-million pound investment in a new track layout for this year's race, as well as improved spectator facilities, is on schedule to be finished by the end of the month.

The new 'Arena' layout will host this year's British Grand Prix, but also MotoGP and World Superbike rounds.

"Work on the circuit and venue is on schedule," said Silverstone managing director Richard Phillips. "The team has been working around the clock, through some pretty terrible weather conditions, to make sure the circuit is ready on time.

"The track works at Brooklands and Woodcote are now complete, including the new run-off area for the fast entry into Pits Straight, while the major new development - the new section of circuit from Abbey, up to the Arena Complex and round to the National Straight – is also coming along nicely.

"There is still a considerable amount of work going on at Silverstone, including the new elevated banks and spectator viewing areas, which will continue beyond March. Conference and hospitality buildings are also being built on the new Stowe Complex."

New hospitality complex building, looks to be at the Stowe Cuircit where the Williams FW31, Virgin VR-01 and Lotus T127 were all shaken down this year. Looks as if theres to be a small pit complex there for the teams to use when shaking down a car, as lets face it, the tarp and a few pieces of string that teams have used when shaking the cars down hasnt exactly been the greatest in terms of facities.

The BRDC just refurbished the Silverstone circuit on account of penning a 10-year deal to host the British GP, with a possible option of 17 years. BRDC has invested ₤5m in the circuit, with new paddock and garages to open for 2011. Interestingly, the new corners added to the circuit were not designed by Hermann Tilke, but by a London-based firm, Populous.

For some reason, I don't understand why the speed trap is set before Turn 11, at Abbey, instead of setting it before Turn 7, the Stowe?? From the illustrations above, it shows speed at speed trap as 295 km/h, but speed before Turn 7 on the Hanger Straight shows 301 km/h!!!



And BTW, Silverstone is 92% sold-out for this year's GP!

I'm going to go and do a trackday on my race bike around it..I have done a couple on the old layout and it was great.

I like it...will miss Bridge corner as that was special, as the bikes do not use the Abbey Chicane, you go flat through the abbey curve!!

Still don't like this layout. I suspect that there will be no increase of overtaking at Silverstone this year. Should have been Donington.

Not impressed. Getting rid of one of the best corners in world motorsport is crazy...... F1 was simply breathtaking through there.

But then, turns 9 and 10 could be pretty impressive flat, with cars alongside each other......

I disagree. Donington should not have been touched - to make it even remotely F1-safe these days will ruin it as a decent circuit for everyone else.

So, it is calculated that Silverstone might beat Monza on average speed. Bring back 1985=)
