McLaren MP4-26 Mercedes

By the splitter?!

That being said it does look a bit too small to be an exhaust IMO.

Well maybe that means the force of hot air coming out is greater and giving better back pressure?

Looks like temperature sesitive paint like the one used by Ferrari + heat shielding on the floor --> exhausts are here.

Thinking about it, if we look at the splitter itself by the presumed exhaust, its moulded to channel the exhust gases coming out if it, but forwards against the direction of flow. Would this not suggest that actually this is a cooling opening for something (KERS maybe as it is rumoured to be mounted below the fuel tank on may cars).

According to AMuS there is "an oval opening at the rounded front end of the sidepod".... The picture however looks like the splitter.

That rises the question though: If RedBull can keep their partly flexible splitter, can the McLaren's flex as well with the exhaust incorporated?

I just the the impression thst:
1. It is too small to be an exhaust
2. The surrounding bodywork looks to encourage flow INTO the opening, not out of it.

But none of this is substanciated fact, just the impression I get from that picture.

Frankly, the floor of this car look bizarre. Is there a channel running under the sidepod to half way? It's very black there.

Do you think they are deliberately disguising the floor with contrasting colours?

Renault's FEE engine sound is different from ignition retard (EBD) sound

Can't we listen to the sound of MP4-26 and know where the exhausts are ? :D

Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Could the slot by the splitter be for KERS cooling?

As KERS is under the engine, it may makes sense to add cooling from under the car?
More could have been done.

Wow... all I can say is thank the maker that we have McLaren and Renault on the grid, willing to try something different. So many trick devices and ideas on that car, should generate a lot of column inches. Really hope one of them wins this year, even if just to show Ferrari and Red Bull that being conservative isn't the way to go.

Most likely.
Given their sidepod construction they probably had to relocate many electrical systems.
