2011Testing-Barcelona-Circuit de Catalunya- 8th - 12th March

Hi there.

The last test of the 2011 pre-season will be held in Barcelona/Montmelo soon.
On the 8th of March the teams will begin their final preparations for the Melbourne Grand Prix.
Mercedes GP, Ferrari, Williams and HRT will start testing on the 9th of March. These four teams will stay until the 12th, with the rest leaving on the 11th of March.

The weather forecast: 10 to 15 Celsius and rain on the 9th and 10th are predicted.

Lets hope for interesting developments, nice pictures and a close ranking on the time monitor.

edit 1: HRT 9-12th?, Force India 8-11th
edit 2: McLaren starts on the 8th, pauses on thursday and stays to the 12th

Not all teams will be testing today. I don't remember who's starting today and who's tomorrow. Can someone write a little schedule or point me to it? Thanks in advance.

Interesting that McLaren have chosen to have an 'off' day mid way through. I guess this will let them work on data from the first two days in order to better direct the last two days.

Hispania left the last Barcelona test a day early, and with the Pirelli TV days in Monza have still got at least 2 days of the alotted 15 days pre season testing avalable.

NICE! Testing actually starts a day earlier than I expected. I had read somewhere it was moved to the 8th-12th (maybe it was this thread title), so didn't realize it was actually "any 4 days between the 7th-12th". We can start seeing some nice pictures and good posts in the car threads again.

It also gives them two days, Tuesday and Saturday, with fewer cars on track. Pretty smart.

I reckon the first 2 days be testing new parts and studying tyre wear on long run, while the last 2 days will dedicated for setting up their cars for Melbourne.

They are basically trying to compress 2 test sessions within a week.

Essencially a team can use its 15 days however it wants. A team has 15 days pre season with an allowance of two 100KM shakedown tests and up to 2 50km straightline tests, not to mention the allowance of a futher 2 days TV recording days.

Personally id like to see the the ammount of pre season testing limted futher, but broadned in other areas, as ive said before;

* Teams have up to 19 full days testing
* Race Drivers are limited to 7 days testing
* Test/Reserve/Development drivers are limited to 3 days
* A half days testing will be rounded up to a full day
* First test should be a 3 day test single car
* Second and third test shall be a 4 day test with a single car
* Final test shall be a four day dual car test (In effect 8 days testing)
* Teams are limited to a single days TV recording, and has to be used before the last test or they loose it
* Cars can be shaken down up to 200km and only by a test or reserve driver
* Straightline or constant radius corner testing is limited to 200km and can only be done by a test or reserve driver.

Id also give a broader range of days for tests, to allow for certain days to have less trafic on the track to stop repeted red flags.

I think theese framework rules would allow more tallent into the sport and also make race drivers have more, meaningful tests where they push as hard as they can to achive the fastest time they can to get a better showing of the cars potential.
