Just remembered, one word of caution when using the software.

If you try to then access local accounts like your bank you will get locked out as the bank will see a UK IPN on a non protected system and will rightly not give you access.

what is slingbox?

It takes your TV signal and streams it to you when you are away from home. So if you know someone in Australa with a live BBC feed, then you can watch their TV from your house in the UK.

I would be less inclined to watch the LIVE BBC races if I can't watch the rest of the races live, it'll just turn me off to the whole season, highlights just aren't the same. Things are so much different now as well, if I wanted to watch the highlights I would pretty much have to lock myself in a cupboard the whole day on Sunday to avoid hearing the results. There are so many outlets now - Twitter/Facebook/BBC News/F1 Tech/etc/etc/etc. - it's just so much more difficult to avoid the results before watching the re-run.

But here's the thing. It is very unlikely SKY will broadcast on the same channel each time, they will probably hop between Sky Sports 1 & 2 to fit the football in, and well to be honest, they also want people to buy both channels. So I would essentially have the buy the channels on a per race basis, it's a big fat in the arse, but I could do it.

Alternatives? Setup a dish to get RTL in the UK and use the Radio5Live feed as the audio... OR...

The RTL route with BBC radio commentary will be one legit way of doing it.

However, there are a whole host of illegitimate offerings online that I would never, ever reccomend you use.....

I want to sincerely urge you technical boffins to work together (perhaps PMs?) to work out a workaround that is understandable, accessible, and usable by the average F1 fan. The ideal goal is to have thousands (at least) F1 fans watching the races FREE -- and legally. I ask not for myself: my 70-hour weeks provide me with enough filthy lucre to buy the cable package that includes Speed.

An workaround is so easy to do so(although I havent tried it yet ), there are VPN servers available all over the world, these require an account which you can register. You register at an VPN server in the uk, connect your computer via vpn to this server and the iPlayer(or w/e similair player) is suddenly accesible.

Another option is to use Veetle TV, this is a client software available for free, one person serves as an host for a certain show, which you can connect to as client via Veetle.com, it is fairly simple to use, although the risk is there that the stream gets shut down.

Slingbox doesn't need a subscription. You just need a box off ebay for £50 to £100.

Out of interest, the UK government are today going to re-launch their e-petition website, and have announced that any petition which receives more than 100,000 signatures will at least be mentioned in parliament. You can start a petition right now, but from noon today, you may search and sign petitions.

May I suggest that we wait and see if a petition on this matter has already been created, and if so, sign it. If not, someone who can word the opening statement well should create a new petition and we will see how many people care.
