Recalibration? So they think they may have got it wrong?

Or calibration? Which is understandable...
Of course the calibration is wrong. The question is how wrong, and how to make it less wrong. When you are looking for fractions of a percent in performance, the signal-to-noise ratio is very low, so there is a continuous process of recalibration. Mercedes are certainly working on improving the calibration of the aero/vehicle dynamics interaction - it's part of a job they recently advertised.

I watch for the racing, but I like playing with the data...

Another site that will be going live timiung will be F1Today, whitch ill be following via Google Translate, also the trusted web site for my testing data from 2010 onward.

There is usually a Greek F1 site that does the data as well, so this way we can analise long runs. And with the GP just last weekend, we have the race times and FP2 times to analise against the long runs of the younbg driver tests.

I didn't think active suspension was allowed?

I don't think the 8 extra sets the teams have for the young driver test have 2012 profiles.

Not during a championship event, no – during a test though, it's bloody useful, it allows them to quickly test all kinds of ideas for how to set the cars up.

Paul Hemberly was saying that they were planning on bringing the new compounds along to the young driver test.

Is that active in the context of being able to adjust on track during a session? So they could do lap 1 on setting 'a' then lap 2 on setting 'b' etc.? I guess the settings are also using some sort evolutionary algorithm, a track side computer will identify the next iteration based on the data from the previous iterations?

Actually, I believe the FW14B was much more advanced, it used the time into the lap, and acceleration sensors to determine where in the lap it was, and to adjust the suspension specifically for the corner coming up.

Are there any images of recent test cars with anything like an active suspension? I doubt it.
Speculation that some teams were running magnetorheological damper (which is nothing like an active suspension) years back was discussed here viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6413

Yup. They would use rear axle rotation speed to figure out distance travelled, and from that you knew where you were on the lap. Then the suspension would do different things corner to corner. Or at least that's what Geoff Willis said in Spa FP

I'm especially keen on seeing Merc's periscope exhausts. Will be interesting to see what "their interpretation" is.
