Berger becomes president of FIA single seater commission

COMMISSIONS

After a full review of the FIA Commissions, all the Presidents were confirmed, with the exception of the Single-Seater Commission where, due to personal reasons, current President Barry Bland stepped down. Gerhard Berger was appointed as the new President of the Single-Seater Commission.

This is an interesting item for F1. It looks like Gerhard is being groomed for bigger tasks in the future. Could he be next in line behind J. Todt?

It's now on the front page as news and tomorrowF1 is also carrying the story. Probably more people have seen the connection with the the Todt succession.

Berger is independently wealthy, had a successful F1 career, won Le Mans and gained management experience at BMW F1 and Toro Rosso. So far he is an unknown entity to the FiA blazers and constituency, but that will change with his current role. It is always much easier to run for the FiA presidency if you are an internal candidate and the other FiA politicians know you well from your inside work. Berger is now in Todt's team and from the whole FiA staff he is probably the most qualified person.
