They do use Sonics actually and its very straight forward.

Its very easy to take a sample of the sound an engine makes at peak revs and a sample of the engine noise when its on tick over in the pit lane. Say for arguments sake that the tick over pitch of the engine is a low C and at max revs the pitch hits a Hi F, the time it takes to ascend through the pitches relates directly to the weight of the fuel being carried as the labor on the drive trains differs under different fuel weights. Simples!

Itd be easier to track the acceleration with the timing/scoring system than with sound. Theres just better ways to do things than with something that has as many variables as sound.[/quote]

I would do it by using sonic and fouriertransform it to get the exact revs during acceleration. Then they need 2 exact times on that straight to make a good calculation.

If they knew the gear ratios they would not need any times at all. Just sound. Maybe they can calculate gears ratios by another mean and then they use sound to calculate weight.

The revs on TV during acceleration is done by sonic and it is extremely precise.

If they do it after quali they can use that info too to calibrate even more since they know they run minimal weight.

Nice part view.

Look at the left of the GENII near G at the middle of G letter height. Is it something strange here or is it mirrored car picture on the sidepod surface?

I looked now a few minutes on this part and can't find out what it is. Can anybody help me?

I think bottom gearbox, you see a small starter-hole at the end.

I'm quite sure it's not. The hole is too small. It could be an inner aerodynamical part. Connection between airbox and gearbox I guess. At the lower part there are some items which looks like suspension exits (maybe for the upper wishbones?).

you can see a wishbone connection left and right side -and a spine along the part which has coincidence with the middle of the car .

To me it looks like the connection of crash box towards the airbox as paul suggested.

Nice how they integrated the monkey seat straight into the lower rear wing. Well done Lotus.

It's used under the engine cover to enhance the extraction of air brought in from the sidepods. That air travels more efficiently over this than it would over the components it covers.

EDIT: I can see that this was already explained by way of the explanation that it's placed between the crash structure and the airbox.

Yeah, inner bodywork... first car from Enstone to have such thing i think.
Nothing new on this car. Diffuser, wings and tea tray are even Melbourne spec...

Yeah. Team probably spare newer parts, yesterday was rainy weather and Jerome just familiarise with the car. I think it was too risky to get new parts. And he made base results to compare changes.

Team decide to change test drivers. Romain will test E20 for two remaining days. As team says 'to give more comparable results between day 2 and 3'. Real testing begins today.

Simon Rennie, Race Engineer
“Today started with collecting data to correlate with our simulation work. We then worked on tweaking the baseline from Jérôme’s dry running yesterday to find the best setup for the circuit. From there, the morning has been focused on testing parts we can’t really try during race weekends due to the limitations on tyres. In testing we can use lots of new sets, giving us clear answers on things that aren’t always black and white during a race weekend. So far Romain has used one set of medium tyres and four sets of hard tyres, giving us plenty of comparable data. We’ll be making changes to the suspension over lunch, with the afternoon focus being optimisation work with that package.”

Aren't there any E20 photos from the afternoon run? Romain just did few great laps in the last couple of minutes. They were supposed to test few new parts.
