A shameless image thread for the enginephiles

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)

It was actually nicknamed "The beast of Turin", each pot was more than 7 liters, 300 Hp going 116 mph!

Think about it.

the crankshaft had much smaller journals and slimmer conrods towards its ends (roller bearing of course)

the 5 cyl 125 cc machine had a 2cyl crank (from the 50cc twin) coupled to a 3 cyl type crank
with 5 seperate exhaust pipes there was no great need for equal firing intervals

Looks a bit like the Napier Cub - the world's first 1000hp aero engine.

Similar weight to a Merlin, similar power to a Peregrine.

Having looked at X's engine pic again, I see that it has twin cranks.

Which makes it more like the V-3420.

How about the Big Blow.
Union Pacific GTELs

Basically a power plant mounted inside of a few train cars plus and extra for the fuel. There are only two remaining one is near my house. They were turbine powered Locomotive engines burning bunker oil.
