I heard a rumor on another forum which claims that if Ferrari do not finish in the top 3 in the WCC this season, Alonso can get out for free. Is this true?

Speaking of Alonso/Ferrari

Having a performance clause wouldn't be a surprise. While this goes into Silly Season, Alonso told Autosprint that the team is focusing solely on 2015 from now on, which will send F14T into struggle for the rest of the season. This, however, contradicts what J. Allison said earlier that the two projects [2014 and 2015] are faring well together simultaneously.

I think this artical https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/for ... 0--f1.html explains it. Although it is Christian Horners opinion for RBR, I think it probably holds true for Ferrari.

But team principal Christian Horner thinks the fact that there are only minor rule changes for 2015 means that there is very little to be gained by stopping work on the current car.

"I can't speak for other teams but this team will fight all the way to Abu Dhabi," he explained.

"Everything we learn this year has a relevance for next year. We don't give up on anything.

"I think it is difficult because the chassis, we can see was very strong in the first sector in Germany and in the third sector we were right there. The damage was in the middle sector.

Alonzo isn't far off...

Gotta love the third person talk :P
Q: Outside.
MM: Everybody is free to make comments. I’m happy that they have time to think about our cars because I don’t have enough time to think about other teams’ cars. I know what you are referring to. I think it’s a statement taken out of context. He has a big title and, as I said, I have the utmost respect for Niki Lauda. For me he is an iconic figure of my childhood and in particular for Ferrari. Today he came to our pit to apologise and honestly I feel very uncomfortable for Marco Mattiacci or Ferrari in this case receiving an excuse from such a champion that I think has been put in middle of something. But I think it’s clear he is a friend of Ferrari and I have utmost respect for Niki. So chapter closed.

Raikkonen situation from qualifying:
http://www.f1times.co.uk/news/display/09160

Interesting thing he questioned his team multiple times to no avail. In the end, no one could probably foresaw bianchi blasting trough to q2 with a marrusia. Raikkonen really should make his medium lap count as did alonso.

I agree he sucked major wind. He already had 2 shots with the med.

In the end the question is, was he better off using a set of softs ? Probably...looking at FA time in Q3 of 1:23.9 even if the Fin is .6 off, that ls 1:24.5 and good enough to get into Q3.

Here is the Power units pieces used by driver.

gonna make things very unpredictable for the remainder of the season.

I presume that with the fire, Hamilton's PU isn't a complete loss but it can't be good.

Re: Ferrari F14T

i don't really know if i should ask this in this thread, but do you guys think that the 2015 Ferrari power unit layout would be an evolution of this car or will we see for an example a split turbocharger like Mercedes? does the regulations alow that? wouldn't it be like starting from scratch with an all new engine that needs to be set up again?

ps: what kind of horsepower advantages do you guys think this kind of split turbo gives? i mean does the air really get that much ''less'' heated by having the compressor on the other side?

What a drive by Alonso today, what a beast.

In fact, I’d go as far as saying that Alonso is the 1st person to beat a Mercedes on merit alone this season.

Granted not Hamilton, as he had to start from the pits, but he beat Rosberg on merit. Nico didn’t have a mechanical failure, and unlike Ricciardo, Fernando did not benefit from a luckily timed SC.

He overtook Rosberg on track around the outside of turn 3, drove away from him in the damp half of the race, he also passed Vergne very early on, something which Nico in a superior car was not able to do. Then kept both Mercedes drivers behind in the dry portion of the race, where their superior package came into play.

Alonso, in a frigging F14T, beat a WO5 on merit. Nothing else needs to be said.

With that being said, Ferrari did look a lot better today than they've done for a long time.

Didn't Alonso pit with Ricciardo under the first safety car? I think it's safe to say that everyone outside of Rosberg, Vettel and Bottas profited massively from the first safety car, had it come out 30 second earlier than it is likely Rosberg would have just driven away into the distance again.

Nope, he was a bit ahead of Button and Ricciardo when the first SC came out.
