Re: F1 Quiz Chain

Post

The photograph in the first post on this page was taken in 1971 in the car park of the Chadwell Heath public library.

The car had been pushed along a main road by three young men in order to find a nice background for the photos.

At the time, the car had a dummy DFV engine, a dummy Hewland DG.300 gearbox, no exhausts or shock absorbers - but it was a start.

How do I know this? I was one of the three young men.

I will check with my cousin Peter Connew regarding the steering rack.

Victory Race, Brands Hatch 1971 (14 F-1 + 13 F-5000)

Jo Siffert, BRM P160, killed at Brands Hatch.

The suspension of his BRM had been damaged in a lap one incident with Ronnie Peterson, and broke later.

Siffert died on 24 October 1971, the same date the F-1 Mexican GP was schedule to happen, a race that was cancelled "in respect for the death of Pedro Rodriguez". This was the official explanation from the Mexican organizers : actually it was dropped from the calendar because the organization of the 1970 Mexican GP was terrible.

That's correct Sombrero, your go!

(xpensive, right after posting I found my original question a bit dull and editet it, you seem to have missed that. AFAIK, Jochen Rindt, Roland Ratzenberger, François Cevert and Gilles Villeneuve all had their fatal accidents during qualifying.)

Welcome brucebook, thank you for sharing! If you are willing to recount more about your first-hand experience with the Darnvall Connew Racing Team, I think that would be great! (preferably in a separate new thread)
(I lived in Austria when the Connew raced the GP there in 1972, but did not attend, and learned about the Connew only much later)

Right, gentlemen, here is the truth about the Connew steering rack from the man himself.

"I remember dinstinctly goiing to Boreham airfield and collecting two high ratio Escort steering racks, from which we pinched the actual rack and the actual pinion bearing assembly ... to fit into our own case , which was made from turned HE15 aluminium bar and high tensile aluminium tube ... all Araldited together."

So now you know!

20 years ago Michel Schumacher was F-1 World Champion for the first time with a Benetton-Ford before switching to the Benetton-Renault.

What was the first F-1 car with a Renault engine that Michael Schumacher drove ? Where and when ?

48hr rule, i've got one:

A lot of F1 drivers got hurt or even worse during accident driving their car in race pace. But there was one incident, where a driver broke a bone in his foot while going moderate speed out of the pit...

I am searching for: the driver, his car, the grand prix and what caused his injury?

To be honest I don't know the exact circumstances, wether the car was standing in the pit, during a pitstop, driving down the pitlane or beeing on the track down the mainstraight.
Let me quote my reference "... right in front of the pits..."

Well, that seems to be a correct answer, although it was not the incident i was looking for

I'd like to let it go ahead to see if someone comes up with the one i was thinking of, but if not, you of course can come up with a new one!
