Yes, indeed. As well as bigger tires, louder engines, higher revs: http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/refue ... f1-in-2017

There are other ideas also being discussed which include the race weekend format and a push to make race starts become solely influenced by driver.

If by this they mean get rid of the three practice starts they do, and specialist clutch and engine mapping then I am all for it. Starts should be a basic setting, driver who controls wheelspin best wins.

Bernie Ecclestone says Rosberg/Vettel bad for Formula 1 business

Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone says German drivers Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel are not good for business because they do not do enough to endear themselves to fans.

TV audiences and race attendances in Germany have been in decline of late, with the German Grand Prix getting axed from the calendar this season for the first time since 1960.

In a joint interview with Rosberg for the official F1 website, Ecclestone said the 2014 runner-up and four-time champion Vettel do not do enough to boost their individual profiles.

"As the cancellation of the German Grand Prix indicates, Germany is a terrible market for Formula 1," said Ecclestone.

"On the contrary Lewis [Hamilton] is a hero in the UK. The British love Formula 1.

"Sebastian is also not doing much for F1. People hardly recognise him on the street."

Ecclestone picked out world champion Hamilton, who is often seen at A-list parties, as a good promoter of F1, which he says has in turn boosted its profile in the UK and across the world.

"I still believe that Lewis is the best champion that we have had in a long, long time," said Ecclestone.

"He manages to get to all different walks of life: red carpet, fashion business, and music - you name it.

"That is not your [Nico's] fault or his. You two are just very different characters.

"When it comes to F1, I am a huge Lewis fan because he is a super promoter of the sport.

"From a pure business aspect - sorry Nico if I have to say this - you are not so good for my business."

Rosberg responded: "Wait a minute. That is a hard call.

"Bernie is the commercial rights holder so the more outgoing the champion is, the better. Of course.

"I also do think about our sport and want to make an effort - but in my own way. I am Nico and not Lewis."

Ecclestone added: "It sounds harder than it is meant. Unfortunately you don't have the German fans on your side."

F1's boss went on to suggest that the championship needs more figureheads.

"True, I also would rather race than strut red carpets in Hollywood - and thank God this is not my job - but also the team principals should be more prominent," he added.

"Take away Toto Wolff's Mercedes shirt and send him down a street - nobody would recognise him."

OMG, what else do people need to realice he lost it a long time ago? Not weird anycase, he´s 84...

He´s so out of reality he does need to look for external reasons about F1 decline, the problem cannot be himself, so he need to look for more reasons.... now it´s the drivers :wtf:

Nico should have replied: That´s your job, not mine, you did it great a long time ago but lately.....

Just an observation from a non-medical person. My dad suffered from Alzheimer's disease. He was always a very gregarious man. The first signs of mental decline was his social skills. He would make inappropriate comments. His "comic timing" went away when talking with people. His ability to "read" other's reactions and react appropriately in conversation went away. I'm just seeing the same kind of behavior with Bernie. Just my $0.02 ...

What Bernie said here is true, Vettel and Rosberg don't do enough to represent their country in F1, this is in quite the contrast with Hamilton.

Vettel dominated the sport 4 years in a row, yet, no German gives a crap about that. Vettel is currently a Ferrari driver and the only guy to put pressure on the Mercedes guys. This would surely relive the Schumi days, yet, no German gives a crap.

Last year Rosberg was a WDC candidate, yet no German gave a crap. Rosberg and Hamilton got in a bit of a conflict due to this rivalry, yet, no German gave a crap.

So yes, Vettel and rosberg are doing a pretty bad job promoting F1(and themselves) to Germany.

Are you seriously suggesting that two drivers themselves are to blame for Germans not caring? And not the enormous ticket prices at GP tracks, Nurburgring getting slashed because of an 84yr old greedy man, the formula being so bent over preserving everything from tyres to fuel..? I can go on.

There is so very little depending on those two, that it's not even measureable.

That's not what I said, nor is it what Bernie said.

Germany is one of the better faring countries that host a Grand Prix. If there is one country that would be able to afford the ticket prices and to host a grand prix, then that would be Germany. Yet, they are the one to fold.

And that is where Rosberg and Vettel come in, representing Germany. The Germans obviously don't give two shits about them because else they would buy GP tickets to support their heroes.

It's simple, fans will pay astronomical prices to support their heroes and apparently, the Germans have got nothing to support.

So by Bernies logic, the USGP should have low attendence as well as Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and a few more because there us no hometown hero. But he then adds Baku?

Its more about an interesting product that has equal to or greater value than other options. Maybe its more expensive and a less interesting show than soccer or any other major sporting event in the location .

I think some of the things Bernie said there makes perfect sense.
And if you´re a fight fan, namely MMA(UFC) you´ll see prime examples of this, and could probably find quotes from Dana White that would seem to para-phrase what Bernie said about promoting themselves and subsequently the sport they´re involved in.

There´s needle-movers and then there´s the ordinary bunch. Doesn´t matter what sport it is.

So now drivers have to play ambassador role too? BS, drivers are drivers, if fans dont care about the sport you can blame many things and many people, but not the drivers, their only duty is driving.

Bernie simply cant accept hes out of date

The driver duty is promoting the sport as well, seeing how they are part of it

Come on, guys! You seem too stressed about all this stuff. What about some Bernie Bingo?
It's simple: after this card has been filled 3743 times, Bernie has guaranteed he'll retire from F1.

The time where someone cared about what Bernie said is gone. He is pure disgrace for the sport. I hope someone from CVC reads this. Old man with massively trolling and silly comments heading the most advanced motor sport? Say that again? Are you, guys really mocking at us, the fans?

As for Germany - factors are complex and somewhat expected, but part of it was the large bill sent by Bernie to both tracks, let's not forget that.
Rosberg and Vettel must not be clowns in order to promote the sport.
