While Merhi´s time was 39.377.... and he had tons of problems. His team mate did 38.364, a full second faster

Merhi said they have many problems they can´t adress, Ferrari blames the team and the team blames Ferrari, those were his words, literally.

So no, Porsche can´t beat the slowest F1 car not even if it has several problems.

Considering how much more efficient through the air the LMP1 cars are likely to be, and how much downforce they can generate from the floor, this is actually quite impressive for a Forumla 1 car.

The F1 car has half as much horsepower too, so not bad.

My understanding was that The LMP1 cars reach max bhp for a few seconds at most. Then it's drastically reduced for a large amount of the lap, not the case?

Thats true to about the same extent as it is for F1 cars....

Current cars have a 160hp boost from the mgu-k for 33 seconds from their 4mj system. Porsche boosts 8mj over 16 seconds around lemans or about 600hp. Granted you could theoretically boost 1000hp for 3 seconds as they are allowed to do, but it's not very practical.

Raikkonnen was almost as fast as Mercs on the last section. There must be smt about it. Maybe preserving tires during first half really helps?

LMP1 cars are 180Kg heavier than F1 car as well, and the tyres are harder. Budget for budget the LMP1 cars embarrass F1 frankly.

I would say that Porshes budget is a couple times bigger than that of Manor (but several times smaller than top spenders in F1 but as we are comparing it to Manor car). But I acctualy think, that the speed ot those LMP1 cars is the reason for much more downforce for faster F1 cars in 2017.

Looking at sector 2 it becomes scarily clear that Ferrari is not really good in fast sweeping turns. That points firmly into the direction of Aero issues. Looking at the fact that Ferrari has far bulkier sidepods than Merc and RB this doesn't seem completely counter- intuitive anyway. Seb being slower than Kimi is a bit of an odd one. He lost it in Sector 3 so tyre degradation might be an issue, knowing that Kimi is really good at nursing tyres. This might also be down to lacking DF in the fast turns in sector 2 locally overheating the tyres for the 3rd sector.
Lewis is also usually more Kind to the tyres than Nico. The fact that also he gained his advantage in the last sector points to me in the direction: The Pirellis being not strong enough to even last one entire Lap and this magnifying any aero issues. Thus the wide gap of the Merc to the rest.
