That is so true

It is sad for Alonso and Vettel that they do not have access to different types of racing; maybe the world championship should be more than just F1 races

Monaco weekend was not traditionally on the last week of May, it was earlier and they don't mind moving the dates

Also sad that F1 teams cannot run teams with the same name in different series

IndyCar's LED position display panels to make Mid-Ohio debut

IndyCar will debut its rollhoop LED position display panels at next weekend's race at Mid-Ohio.

The panels, which have been tested several times this year, display each car's on-track position in real time, and will use different colours to convey different information: red as the default display for running order, green to show time spent in the pits, and a flashing green 'PP' to indicate when a driver is on the push-to-pass.

Unlike similar systems employed in sportscars, which only update as the car crosses the start/finish line, the IndyCar system will update at all of the timing points around the track.

"IndyCar is committed to implementing new technology into the IndyCar Series and this project was about how we can to enhance the at-track experience for fans at our events and allow them to understand more of what's going on," said Derrick Walker, IndyCar President of Competition and Operations.

"If you're not in the line of sight of a video screen or a scoring pylon, it's sometimes hard to know who's doing what on the racetrack.

"It was a natural to do the numbering system and we're confident this will help get our fans more engaged at the track."

Time spent in pits is a pointless one, but I like the track position and push to pass idea. Neat.

It looks better than Anthony Hamilton's idea for F1.

How heavy is DW12 nose cone?

Interesting that it's largely intact... Most crashes in F1 don't leave such large pieced of debris to fly around. Even if that's not especially heavy the forces involved are going to be significant.

When the Dw12 was first run, it contained 26lb of lead ballast in the nose:
The car's handling got better during the most recent round of testing at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but the improvement came from an extreme measure: Placing 26 pounds of lead ballast in the nose of the car to balance out the weight distribution.

Perhaps that was eradicated due to the new bodykits.

It was the nose crash structure box that hit him. In F1 it also stays intact as it has to, to pass FIA tests. The difference is that F1 cars rarely, if ever, go horizontally into the wall at 150+mph, and so they stay attached to the car.

If you wonder if it is unusual that the nosecone breaks apart that easily:
Ericsson's nosecone also broke apart surprisingly easily.

They aren't designed to take sideways impacts, they are designed to absorb energy during a full frontal impact.
