Mercedes AMG F1 W06

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What was the use of tubercles again? Stall/ flow seperation?

Prevents flow separation by creating multiple small vortices that keep the flow attached. This therefore increases the working range of the wing i.e makes the wings operation more consistent.

Looks more like a saw-tooth rather than a tubercle...same result though.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Yeah saw tooth design. Creates very small local vortices. small enough not to disipate before they disturb the flows down stream but large enough to work the flaps.

If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

That is not the W06 floor. There are no slots ahead of the cutout for the rear wheel.

How can you see that when that section isn't even in the image?

I see the tyre squirt cut out ahead of rear wheel location, the metal support is visible as well.

Some slip-ups from Mercedes concerning the showed bodywork. These are the first full on pictures of both the back of the wing, and the underside of the diffuser. Usually great care is taken that these remain unvisible.

Sure the other teams have spied on theese details long ago. Even an oblique shot of the floor should be enough to see what is going on underneath.
