Scuderia Ferrari SF16-H

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The rules call for an average deceleration of 2.5g over the first 150mm of the structure, not exceeding 10g in the first 100mm, and not exceeding 20g before 200mm. I would guess then that the bulge of the nose is shaped as it is to meet the requirement for a low nose whilst being just enough to bring the average deceleration up to what it needs to be. As you say, the rest of the nose section looks a lot more solid, so I guess that the stub doesn't actually need to provide much in the way of deceleration if they can get it from the more solid part with the advantage of reducing weight.

(O/T - am I right in assuming that the front wing itself isn't attached during the crash but the pylons are? This image suggests so)

If they can achieve the required decelerations without the buldge itself, they could make buldge out of paper mache' for all they care...

It's just to meet the geometrical regulations and even though it's thin i believe it still plays a structural part in the crash tests.
For Sure!!

So they can go shorter if they increase the thickness. Maybe they have that length to help with the aerodynamics around the neutral part of the wing.

AMuS: New turbo anticipated for Canada will cost 2 token. Aim: generating more electrical power through MGU-H without loss of power in engine.

According to Bild Ferrari has new sidepods and diffuser in Barcelona. Apart from improved aero, parts also weigh less.

Looks like the same old monkey seat to me, although you may be right that they've not run it on this year's car yet.

Was quoted somewhere that they were bringing new sidepods and there is also a new rear wing they didnt run in sochi that they may run here... diffuser is also said to be new.
Sidepods are said to weigh less than the previous version
