Hamilton and Alonso reckon 4th is the best Hamilton can expect in the race starting from the back. I reckon Hamilton would happily take that if you could guarantee it.ChrisDanger wrote:Not sure if this is exactly what's happening, or just speculation, but this guy usually knows his stuff.

EDIT: I'm just watching the press conference and Hamilton confirmed he'll be taking an engine penalty this weekend.
Hamilton wasn't certain of 4th. Alonso threw that number on the table but Hamilton seemed far less optimistic.Just_a_fan wrote:Hamilton and Alonso reckon 4th is the best Hamilton can expect in the race starting from the back. I reckon Hamilton would happily take that if you could guarantee it.
Lewis, if you do start from the back, you say you will do all you can to limit the damage of taking a penalty. What would be a realistic finish if you do that?
LH: Honestly, I have no idea. Honestly, if you look... [Alonso interrupts...] fourth? He says fourth. Honestly, I really don't know how far I can get up. It depends, the pace of the other cars. We'll start tomorrow and we'll find out. If Red Bull are right close with us, that's two cars less, that's three down and then the gap follows behind. If the others are much much slower than the possibilities go up. There's going to be safety cars, all sorts of things. I started last in Hungary a couple of years ago when the gaps were much bigger and came fourth, so Sunday's definitely going to be harder than that and I just hope that I can get into the points. As long as I'm going forward, that's what matters.
Good point, the transcript makes that clearer.ChrisDanger wrote:Hamilton wasn't certain of 4th. Would be good for the championship, otherwise it is again a too easy WDC for Hamilton.SR71 wrote:Prediction:
-Vettel trumps Red Bull
-Lewis to crash out on error
It would be good for the WC to have him crashed out, but the only times he did crashed out, apart from car failures, was when he couldn't find his ultimate qualifying speed. He's got a pretty relaxed weekend ahead. He can work on a balance to preserve his tires in the race. The only real risk is maybe some overtaking later in the race.Gothrek wrote:Would be good for the championship, otherwise it is again a too easy WDC for Hamilton.SR71 wrote:Prediction:

+1 on that. I am hoping for the same. But last time Ham was insistent on not starting from PitLane.matt_b wrote:Good that they're getting it out the way early on a track you can overtake. Just hope they learned their lesson from China and start Lewis from the pitlane rather than last on the grid to then get tangled up in turn 1.
