Mercedes AMG F1 W07

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What other advantages could this shape bring?
Just a guess. Would this not increase the view factor and increase the radiative heat transfer to the drum? That could serve both brake cooling as tyre heating.

Seems so. Could be just typical weight cutting.

and yet the car doesn't have any visible tricks to it, like an f-duct or whatever we've had in the past. in fact, it looks simple to me. the way other teams are reporting their HP gains on new engines, merc should be around 1200bhp by now! that's about 450bhp above of what the regulations were supposed to be designed for, an engine of around 750bhp. fuel flow limits and all that.

i think merc have found that loophole or whatever. and f1 is dirty. the term "motorsport" doesn't apply to f1.
I don't think that Mercedes has reached 1200 BHP yet, probably around 950-980 BHP in quali, that's like 790 - 820 BHP from the V6 Turbo alone, which is already too much.

If you are referring to the R-cascade bit, the "new" wing seems to have some sort of spacer which is, i believe, removable and only for transportation purposes

Spa and monza spec? Unlikely they'll use hamilton's version at this gp imo.

Could be part of the "overtaking the field" job that Hamilton has to do. Bit more top speed at the end of the straights makes it easier, even if his ultimate laptime is a few tenths slower. Plus he doesn't have to qualify (and over a race, a bit less drag might be faster)
