WATCH: Lewis Hamilton's Belgian GP grid penalty explaine

Post

Watch as Ted Kravitz explains the reasons behind Lewis Hamilton's mammoth grid penalty for the Belgian GP.

The Mercedes driver has had three new power units fitted to his car during practice at Spa, with each incurring new element introduced triggering a penalty.

The issue dates back to the Chinese GP in April and the following race in Russia where Hamilton suffered unreliability problems in qualifying, leaving him short of power units for the rest of the season, with just five allowed penalty free.

Kravitz explains which parts failed and the reasons for those problems and how Mercedes rectified the issues.

The Mercedes driver will start from the back in Sunday's race as he heads into qualifying with a 55-place grid penalty.

When McLaren did this last year nobody cared. Now with Merc doing it I think they'll look at that loophole more seriously.
Anyway, at least he loses the disadvantage of having engine upgrades if he doesn't want to suffer another penalty, so people can't complain so much about the "free" power units.
