Force India VJM10 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Simply, we don't believe it's a shadow :)
If I am not mistaken you are speaking about what is highlighted in the red circle?

If so, I would also assume the slot you are speaking about will follow something like the blue line I added.

If there were to be such a slot there, the projected shadow on the ground would reflect it.
The many light of the stage are not really helping, but the shadow of such an area would create an equal indentation on the ground highlighted by the second blue line.
But as you can see the floor shadow is actually straight.

Maybe I'm wrong and it's really tricky to understand anything with one poorly lite picture.

Overall it's a nice car, most major stuff will come around Barcelona and Melbourne anyway but it's nice to have a preview of the season ahead.
I usually like shark fins, but this one isn't really what you would call flattering.
Exactly. We need a better picture, that's for sure. I think it's a slot because (in the circle) there a very dark area. We have to wait a few days and we will see :)

Andy Green confirms this is the exact car that will be tested on monday.
Green also confirmed that the specification revealed by Force India on Wednesday is "exactly" how the car will look when it first leaves the pitlane at the start of pre-season testing at Barcelona on Monday.

This is the slot where I believe air may be exiting:

It is not a slot. What you see is the floor with a gurney tab on top.

Coming from the aerodynamics aspect, the Shark Fin the way it's designed is either to add more sponsors or for now just a vanity piece and the real bits will come out later during testing, I'm not sure. But the design does look promising, not to mention the article from http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/form ... 24280.html gives me a lot of optimism, here's hoping for the best! =D> :D

I disagree...
This is probably the most uniquely detailed cars i have seen in a long while.
Look closer. That front wing is whole different philosophy to anything we have seen before. The nose is extreme. The side pods are new. The length of the car is for a reason of cooling and maximizing barge board length. The side channels around the head reast is also something new in this area (for this era of safety regs)... There a lot of stuff that we will see coming on soon too.

I'm confused because of the nose. The concept must work well otherwise they would not pursue it. On the other hand, it would be easy to copy but no one does it

They had their own concept and continued to develop, just like other teams continued theirs (clear to see). New car doesn't mean they throw away all WT and race data to pursue some new concept (too many variables).

Visually it looked as if they ripped off bits from last year's nose ;-) and the way they described it (Green) confirms that. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/forc ... ep-876274/
"It is the same concept," he added, confirming that by opening the nostrils up at the bottom it allows more air to get through to the underside of the chassis, and the car does not feature an S-duct.

"It is a different looking nostril as we had last year – the same philosophy. We just opened it up a little bit more."

Mercedes, Ferrari, Mclaren have so far retained their nose shape to the previous year's design, I don't see your point just singling out SFi. The nostril design is a proven approach, why should the team take a new approach and scrap this instead?

It is the same approach. That is my point.
Even mr. Green said it himself.
