They still got points with newbie drivers and a one year old engine.
Versus mclaren with a maestro in the form of Alonso, so you have to give the team and car credit.

Suaber can make a very good car if they have the money; surely even as good as the force india cars which are respectable machines.
For Sure!!

Just thinking about this Mercedes engine in the McLaren badged as a Honda (which i don`t see happening) and i had a thought/question.
Has any team ever ran 2 different manufacturer engines in their cars? You know like McLaren running a Honda engine in one car and a Mercedes in the other....Wouldn`t that be ace :)

I`ll say it again though, the fact Honda and Renault to some extent are unable to build an engine anywhere near as good as Mercedes or Ferraris is really not doing Formula 1 as a whole any good! Why would any other manufacturer be it VW, Toyota, BMW, etc even consider entering F1 if its that hard and takes so much time and resources..I really can`t see anyone but works Mercedes or works Ferrari winning the titles until 2020!
Just to mention that the same things "never" about Honda and Renault were spoken last year about Ferrari, too.

The chassis was fast enough to get points in Barcelona, an aero heavy track, so maybe, let's see.
No it wasn't fast enough, didn't you watch qualifying?
That result was luck since they haven't repeated it since.

İf mclaren not doing thunder without rain, Honda can canalise money to Suaber and they can take good results.
Sauber is not going to produce a chassis equivalent to McLaren even if they are given loads of money for atleast 3-4 years. A weak chassis combined with Honda's PU ain't going to produce good results at all.
Williams becomes a Honda works team then? It's historically viable and Williams is a brand that can produce a good chassis if given the resources i think.

Often members base opinion on team history. With teams like Williams and Sauber, it doesn't apply. Teams are a sum of it's parts. Williams isn't the team that had Newey on it, all be it Paddy Lowe is Huge step up. Sauber have been dumping people for years and really haven't attracted anybody with their meager budgets of the past. Any diamonds in the rough they might have discovered have been pulled away. IF they have money now, it's still gonna take a few years to get the right people in place.

I don't know all the engineers in F1 but if they were really serious why didn't they get Lowe or Allison?

Perhaps the car has no mechanical grip. In Barcelona they showed that at least they have some downforce on fast corners.

With the talk around of rebadging a Merc PU for 2018, if they don't have a sponsor to pay for it by then, why not have some fun and rebadge it as a TAG PU.... Mansour Ojjeh still owns that group (even though they sold off Tag Heuer in 1999.

Would be a nice in-joke to the fact that RBR's PU is also rebadged and also revive the McLaren TAG naming from the 80's....

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Yeah, and this makes more sense than making Sauber their works team. Williams is a better brand and are more capable of designing a good chassis as they already have great engineers in place like Lowe.
