To me, this is a pretty clearly Mercedes track.

Quite different approach in Ferrari and Mercedes with the tyres. No surprises I guess, Ferrari works better with softer compounds.

Mercedes should be stronger here but I dont think the difference will be as big as this picture shows.

Love the pic with those black clouds. Some rain will be great.

By the way, it would be great if they continue with the trend of starting the race with the normal proccedure even if rains. It was a great and pleasant surprise what we watched in Singapur. Is true F1 back?

If you see the onboard pole from last year, you will realize that, turn 4, 11 and 14 are not slow. They are more downforce dependent than mechanical. So, Mercedes wouldn't be struggling over there. It's only turn 1 (80 kph), 2 (82 kph), 9 (79 kph) and 15 (81 kph) that require more mechanical grip that would be crucial for traction from lower speed.

Most importantly, the tyres are not UltraSoft which is also another factor that would move the balance towards Mercedes.

The battle would be between efficient downforce and draggy downforce. Who have better co-efficient of Drag Vs Downforce. PU power isn't going to be overtly necessary, which means, Ferrari shouldn't feel left behind. But the question is, are they going to bring a new PU, which would have to conform to the reduced oil burning regulation. If so, how would that affect them?

I was going to comment on this very fact, and you've not only beat me to the punch, but created a handy dandy map. Surely worth more than 1000 forum words.

EDIT: I'd color 10,11 and 14 in teal as well.

Another wet race would be too much to ask for?

Careful what you ask for.

Did you guys know that the last 8 rain affected races have all been won by Hamilton?

Japan 2014
Great Britain 2015
United States 2015
Monaco 2016
Great Britain 2016
Brazil 2016
China 2017
Singapore 2017

I love risk, you know?

I still think that Seb and Lewis can have a good battle in rain. Previous years Hamilton had a very superior car and Nico was not a real contender when it rained.

Interestingly enough, Hamilton has only won once in Malaysia, making this one of his least successful tracks - along with Brazil.

He hasn't been particularly lucky at either circuit, this being a notable example.

True, forgot he was punted out and crashed while leading in Brazil, I think by Hulkenberg.

Any word on Vettel's engine situation going into Sepang? Max/kimi must have got some damage as well.

I'm unhappy that this is our last year in Malaysia. The circuit is really good.

I'd give 7&8 to Ferrari as well.
