Cosworth
1.5L BD based 4 cylinder engine with staged turbos was bending crankshafts at 3.0 bar (absolute) boost @ 11,000rpm. Even with a redesigned crank and flywheel the complexity of the turbo setup and transmission was probably a complete clusterfcuk.

Perhaps I should have been more specific, the 4-cylinder I had in mind made it to the track and was tested but never raced.

Before the Ligier JS29 (see above) that Alfa Romeo 415T engine was tested in another car. Which one ?

Must have been in one of the Osellas, FA1 perhaps, as they were running the Alfa V8 turbo at the time?

You're very close. Hints : that car too was driven by Arnoux (Ghinzani seen above in the Ligier JS29-Alfa Romeo) in the second half of 1986...

Some story, great images btw, I wonder what really triggered the split with Ligier, I have read several versions?

On the engine subject;

During one particular season in modern time, no less than four italian-built engines were competing in F1.

Season and engines please?

Was it 1990? The Subaru engine used by Coloni was built by Motori Moderni, so you could argue that it's an Italian engine despite the Japanese badge. The others were Ferrari (036 and 037), Lamborghini (3512) and Life (the ill-fated F35 W12).

I can't really think of a question right now, and really prefer answering to asking so if anyone wants to go ahead and post a new question, that's cool with me.
