X-wing
Introduced in 1997 by Tyrrell on its 025 chassis, these mid-mounted high towered wings were aimed at increasing downforce when travelling close behind another car. However, in the interest of safety, the FIA outlawed the wings - on ground of safety issues to avoid needing approval by the teams - prior to the '98 Spanish GP, after a lot other teams like Ferrari had copied the idea.
