Honda drivers bid farewell to Coulthard

The 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix is Red Bull driver David Coulthard’s last ever F1 Grand Prix and yesterday Honda drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello took time out to wish their friend well for the future.

Coulthard competed for the first time in F1 in 1994 and has since had a great deal of success scoring 13 wins, 62 podiums, 18 fastest laps, 12 pole positions and 535 points (prior to this weekend’s race). He has also been a prominent figure in the F1 paddock during his 15 seasons in grand prix racing, and made a great number of friends too. Among them are Honda drivers Rubens and Jenson, who this morning joined ‘DC’ for a final farewell in the Interlagos pitlane, where he was promoting his special Wings For Life livery in support of making spinal cord injury curable.

"DC is a legend,” said Button. “When I was just a kid in karts, David was one of my heroes and spending time competing with him has been a real honour. Although not all the time... we have had a fair few crashes together over the year! He has achieved so much in Formula One but remains one of the most humble and genuine guys in the sport. I wish him all the best for the future and know that we will keep in touch."
