Massa on pole, Hamilton fourth

F1 Grand Prix, GP Brazil, Autódromo José Carlos Pace, Interlagosbr

Felipe Massa has done what is needed to clinch his first title. He set the fastest time in qualifying and will be joined by a stunning Toyota of Jarno Trulli. Kimi Raikkonen is in a perfect position as he was third, followed by Lewis Hamilton in 4th place.

Qualifying for the Brazilian GP looks set to be an all dry session, after some rain during the Friday practice sessions. More rain is however expected during the race.

Piquet and Barrichello are the first to go out, two Brazilians who are still not certain of a drive next year. Piquet had a season filled with ups and downs, while Honda may be looking for someone younger to replace Rubens.

After 15 minutes, Hamilton is on top, but the differences are very very small. Rosberg for instance is out, being only 1.1 seconds slower than the fastest man. Due to these differences, almost all cars are out again in the closing stages of the session. Massa comes out on top, ahead of Raikkonen.

Button even comes to a halt at the side of the track, and can already look forward to the race to end his dismal season. Together with him, both Williams and both Force India's are out of qualifying.

Q2 kicks off with both Toyota's, Glock ahead of Trulli. Next up are the Ferrari's who aim to beat Trulli's time. Massa improves all, but moments later Hamilton slices off another 0.019s.

2 minutes ahead of the end of Q2, the cannons were loaded again, and Kovalainen topped the times. Vettel as in for a surprise second, Hamilton third, followed by Massa and Glock. Out are Piquet, Webber, Kubica, Coulthard and Barrichello.

In Q3, Glock is again the first man out on track and surprises are numerous. After the first flying laps, Massa is ahead Trulli, followed by Raikkonen, Kovalainen and Vettel. Hamilton is provisionally in 6th, ahead of Alonso. If we're not mistaken all drivers are on the softer tire compound.

Massa then further improves his time, and will be joined by Jarno Trulli on the first line.
