Having won his first two World Championship points of the season in Istanbul, Robert Kubica now travels to the eighth race of the year, the British Grand Prix, with renewed confidence. The BMW Sauber F1 Team driver talks about the features of the legendary Silverstone Circuit.

"I always like to go racing at Silverstone," says Kubica. "The British fans are amazing. It is a historic motor sport venue and you can always feel the special racing atmosphere there."

The very first Formula One race was held at Silverstone on 13th May 1950 and was won by Guiseppe Farina. The "Silverstone Circuit" was built on an old Royal Air Force airfield, which was used during the Second World War.

One of the perils faced by drivers at the British Grand Prix is the weather. Sudden rainfall can result in a slippery surface in an instant. Strong winds gusting over the flat area around Silverstone can easily cause the cars to be off balance in corners like "Becketts". "The weather is quite unpredictable at Silverstone," Robert agrees. "Wind plays an important role. Especially in the high-speed corners, it can have a big effect on the car's behaviour."

"From a driver's perspective, the circuit is quite challenging," Robert continues. "The first sector is very fast and has a couple of real high-speed corners. I think Silverstone might be a track that suits our car."
