F1 teams agree to modify points system once more

Just weeks after announcing a new points system for the 2010 Formula One Championship season, the teams have agreed to make another change to the scoring system. The newest version of the top ten finishers picking up points features a seven-point gap between first and second place in order to reward race winners more.

New points system:

1st: 25 points
2nd: 18 points
3rd: 15 points
4th: 12 points
5th: 10 points
6th: 8 points
7th: 6 points
8th: 4 points
9th: 2 points
10th: 1 point

The points system that was previously approved by the WMSC on 11 December awarded the second place driver 20 points. Fourth place is valued an extra 2 points, as well as fifth and sixth. One point was added to 7th place, and one deducted for a finish in 8th position.
