Impressive Webber takes pole ahead of Kubica

F1 Grand Prix, GP Monaco, Monte Carlo Circuitmc

Mark Webber has pulled the surprise of qualifying Red Bull appeared to be nowhere during all qualifying, except for their final stints. Robert Kubica is an incredible second, putting in stunning laps in the Renault. Sebastian Vettel is third, ahead of Felipe Massa.

Karun Chandhok didn't want to wait any moment and hit the track as soon as the session kicked off. Track temperature is 28 degrees, just like this morning when everybody was struggling to get the tyres working properly.

Fernando Alonso meanwhile won't have to do much work after his crash in FP3. His team is still rebuilding his car, including the spare tub as the original one appears to be damaged.

6 minutes into the session, everybody is out on track. It's initially Hamilton who takes the lead, but the quick laps are flying in quickly one after another. Massa is also in contention, along with Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button.

With 8 minutes still on the clock, Massa is fastest with 1:14.757, followed by Mark Webber. Massa then decides to rejoin the pitcrew, followed by most other cars that look safe to go through to Q2. This leaves the new cars out on track, giing them some space to try and improve their laptimes.

Despite fear of problems with the amount of cars around he shortest track of the season, there aren't any surprises at the end of Q1, as all 6 new cars and Fernando Alonso are out of qualifying.

Q2 is only 15 minutes long, and all 17 remaining cars decided not to take any chances and go out on track immediately. Vitaly Petrov is the first to do so but his teammate tops the timesheets after 4 minutes of the session, already going faster then Massa in Q1. The time to beat now is 1:14.625.

3 minutes later Rosberg takes over with a 1:14.375, followed by Webber and Vettel. Jenson Button meanwhile is in the danger zone. He managed to improve but is only 0.006s quicker than 11th position.

Just when everybody came back on track to attempt a final improvement, Petrov goes off in St. Devote, but the marshals are able to clear the track in time to allow the cars on track to each complete a flying lap.

Again no big surprises though. Rosberg was unbeaten but Felipe Massa came close to 0.030s. The cars that didn't make it through to Q3 are Hulkenberg, Sutil, Buemi, Petrov, De La Rosa, Kobayashi and Alguersuari.

10 cars now have only 10 minutes ahead of them to secure pole position. Kubica is the first out on track again, and on his second flying lap he posts a 1:14.284, again better than his time in Q3. That is the fastest time so far this weekend.

3 minutes from the end, Button is on a quick lap all the way behind Massa, but just as they enter the one but last corner, Massa backs off to make some room for himself, effectively ruining Button's lap.

One minute later Webber tops Kubica, and while both improve one lap later, Webber keeps ahead and takes another pole position for Red Bull.
