Both Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were handed a 20-second penalty from the Malaysian Grand Prix stewards. Hamilton received the penalty for making more than one move to defend his position when fighting with Alonso, while the Spaniard was given the penalty for making contact with Hamilton.

Both were given post-race drive-throughs, meaning 20 seconds added to their final times. This resulted in a drop from 7th to 8th place for Lewis Hamilton. Alonso keeps his sixth place.
