Audi #2 wins Le Mans, Peugeot 2nd and 3rd

By on

André Lotterer was the first to cross the finish line after 24 hours of racing in Le Mans. Together with Fassler and Treluyer he drove the Audi R18 dominantly to the finish. The Peugeot nr8 and n9 completed the podium after faultless drives.

Early on in the race, Audi lost the nr3 car as Alan McNish crashed heavily right when taking the lead after just one hour of racing. Hours later, at nightfall, the Audi nr1 was also lost as Mike Rockenfeller hit the barriers at high speed.

Both cars got involved in accidents when lapping other cars, and coincidentally twice with a Ferrari FT car.

Peugeot put up hard defence, but the 908 proved not fast enough this year. Last year it was very fast but fragile, and this year it was extremely reliable but no match to Audi's pace. Their possibility to run one lap longer each stint did not suffice to get the win.

In the LMP2 standings, the Zytek Nissan nr41 of Greaves Motorsport finished 8th overall and first in their class.

In 11th place, the Corvette C6Z nr71 finished first in the GTEpro class. In GTEam, Corvette nr50 of Larbre competition win its class and finished 20 overall.
