Simoncelli passes away after Malaysian GP accident

Gresini Racing's Marco Simoncelli has unfortunately passed away today after succumbing to injuries sustained during a freak accident during the second lap of the Malaysian GP at Sepang. The 24 year old Italian rider was battling for fourth when he went wide, and while rejoining he slid into the path of Tech 3's Colin Edwards and Ducati's Valentino Rossi.

Simoncelli was then taken to the circuits medical centre where later in the day he was pronounced dead. Edwards fortunately came out unscathed despite the head on accident, as did Rossi who managed to ride away from it all.

Our condolences go out to Marco Simoncelli and all of his loved ones on this most unfortunate day. May he rest in peace.
