FIA to ensure tyres are used to Pirelli specs

Following a request from Pirelli, the FIA have sent a note to the teams ahead of first practice at the Nurburgring that is will check if teams are using their tyres according to the recommendations by Pirelli.

"It will be the responsibility of each team to satisfy the FIA technical delegate that their cars comply with the following requirements.".

- Minimum starting pressure front and rear: 16psi
- Minimum stabilised running front tyre pressure: 20psi
- Minimum stabilised running rear tyre pressure: 19psi
- Maximum negative EOS camber front: 4°
- Maximum negative EOS camber rear: 2.5°
- Front and rear tyres must be used on the side of the car for which they were originally designated (no swapping from side to side)

The new guidelines are to ensure a safe operation as low tyre pressures were pinpointed as one of the reasons for the problems at Silverstone.

One other issue is teams switching the tyre left to right, and fitting them in such a way that the intended inner tyre wall become the outer tyre wall. Pirelli's tyres are constructed in such a way the the inner wall has a different stiffness than the outer one, which may create problems when not used as intended. It must be noted however that Pirelli knew of this practice, that many teams have done this before and that the Italian tyre manufacturer has never before forbidden this.
