Formula One set to return to Austria in 2014

The Austrian Grand Prix is set to see the Formula One circus return to the Red Bull ring in 2014, as the circuit's team owner today unveiled a deal with Bernie Ecclestone.

The circuit was dropped off the F1 calendar after 2003 as it failed to undertake upgrades that were necessary for Formula One.

New owners Red Bull have however pushed ahead with improvements, leading to the track being reopened and named the 'Red Bull Ring'.

Today's announcement on the circuit's website is short, and only states that Formula One is set to return on July 6th. The deal that is now in place was done between Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz and Bernie Ecclestone, but will still need to be approved by the FIA at a WMSC meeting to definitively make it on to the 2014 calendar.
