Mercedes AMG on Friday completed a first day of running with a full 2014 specification Formula One car during a filming day at Silverstone. Nico Rosberg was first to get behind the wheel of the new challenger.

The new F1 W05, powered by the PU106A Hybrid Power Unit, opened a new era of Formula One at 14:21 this afternoon when it left the garage for the first time in cold but dry conditions at Silverstone.

Driven by Nico Rosberg, the car completed a total of 40 km before dusk at 16:30.

The same car will subsequently be transported to Circuito de Jerez where track testing will commence on Tuesday 28 January, along with 9 other Formula One teams.

The team also released a clip with sound of the new engine as Rosberg passed the pit straight.
