Lewis Hamilton continued to top the timesheet in the second practice session of the day in preparation for the Chinese Grand Prix. The reigning World Champion was nearly half a second quicker than Kimi Raikkonen and more than a full second ahead of Daniel Ricciardo.

Vettel and Rosberg were largely outclassed by their teammates, mostly because neither managed to do a clean lap on the soft tyres. Nico Rosberg in particular went wide through the final corner on his best lap, forcing him to be content with 5th.

As Ricciardo held hopes up for Red Bull Racing, Daniil Kvyat hit trouble as he crashed off due to an apparent brake failure. The young Russian already lapped at a reduced pace after a spark of fire originated from his left rear wheel.

After 51 minutes, the session was also halted briefly following a crash from Felipe Massa. The Brazilian lost control of his Williams under braking for turn 14 and ended up kissing the wall, tearing off an endplate of the new Williams front wing.
