Hamilton doubts the benefit of a Mercedes-Red Bull collaboration

Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes should fully understand the hazard and the risks of a possible collaboration with arch rivals Red Bull.

Amid torrid speculation about the divorce of the Red Bull-Renault marriage Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff declared that his squad has been seriously considering the possibility of supplying Red Bull with engine from next year on.

However, the team’s leading driver Lewis Hamilton is not fully convinced about why his team should supply its field-leading power unit to the team which dominated the sport for four consecutive years before Mercedes took over the reign.

"I think if we’re serious about winning world championships, we shouldn’t do it. Red Bull is a great team," Hamilton said.

Toto Wolff declared that Mercedes wants to help Formula 1 by supplying struggling teams with their superior engine. Hamilton, however, is convinced his team needs to concentrate solely on itself.

"Mercedes is here to win so I don’t think we should.”

“It would be like giving Ferrari an engine," the double world champion added.
