Vettel tops first day of testing at Barcelona

F1 Test, Barcelona, Circuit de Catalunyaes

The times at the top of the leaderboard haven't changed since noon, meaning that Sebastian Vettel ends the first day of testing on top. The German completed 69 laps and proved nearly half a second faster than reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton.

Just like in last year's tests, Mercedes proved extremely reliable and active as of the start of testing. Testimony to that is Hamilton's 156 completed laps, equalling Nico Rosberg's record set last year.

No team really had a dreadful day, even though some cars were unseen for several hours to make corrections and fix issues. Haas for instance completed just 8 laps before noon, and was only again seen late in the afternoon to end the day with 31 laps in total, faster still than Renault's Jolyon Palmer.
