Formula One's sole tyre supplier Pirelli have today confirmed that they have kicked off preparations for the 2017 season by starting on-track testing of a number of prototype elements set to be used in the development of the larger 2017 tyres.

A statement from the Italian company revealed Jean-Eric Vergne has today driven a 2014 Ferrari at Fiorano, the Scuderia's own racetrack. Vergne is currently Ferrari's official test and development driver, completing numerous hours in the simulator to optimise the car's setup.

"Pirelli is testing today at Fiorano circuit with Ferrari. The team’s test driver Jean-Eric Vergne is driving a F1 Ferrari F14 T.

"The tyres are the 2016 size and contain a number of prototype elements as we start developing larger tyres for 2017: the first season of a new three-year programme for Pirelli".
