Haas F1 team principal Günther Steiner is happy how its team handles the problems a newcomer has to face, but he is aware of the areas his team has to address in a bid to make its performance more stable.

Haas F1 Team entered the championship this year with high hopes as the American team has close ties with Ferrari. The team didn’t fail to impress in the first six races as it has collected 22 points so far and is ahead of the languishing Renault, Sauber and Manor teams in the Constructors’ Championship.

“I think we know now were we are roughly in the ranking”, started Steiner.

“There will not be big changes if we don't come up with something special. We are still learning. We got a lot more stable. We know now what we can achieve and what we cannot achieve.”

51-year-old Steiner who started his motorsport career in the Rally Championship is happy with the progress his team has done, but confessed he sometimes has to remind himself that his project is still very young.

“We try to get better, especially in qualifying; I think our race performance is better than our qualifying performance. It's a learning phase. We are pretty happy with the whole team, how they developed over the past three months, from where we came.

“It's our seventh race. I keep forgetting myself. It's only our seventh race, while we compete with people who are here for years. All in all, we just keep trying to do a better job and then get prepared for the new car coming next year.”

As for this weekend’s race in Montreal, Steiner said his biggest present is that he didn’t have to make a long-haul flight, so he could avoid the jet leg. Steiner lives in North Carolina with his wife Gertaud and his daughter Greta.
