Red Bull team principal Christian Horner revealed that Adrian Newey, the chief technical officer of the Milton Keynes-based squad is investing more time into the F1 project, but he is still not fully committed to it as he splits his time between his F1 work and the team’s collaboration with Aston Martin.

Newey, who gained fame with his championship winning cars for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull made a step back two years ago reasoning that he is not enticed by F1 any more. The team, however, managed to keep the guru on board with new projects.

The Briton has been working on the Aston Martin project and also serves as consultant for Red Bull’s F1 department since then.

With new technical regulations on the horizon for 2017, Newey was steadily intensifying his activity in F1 over the past months. Despite to that, he only makes rare appearances on race weekends as he also oversees his son’s racing career.

When asked to comment, Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner revealed that Newey attended the American GP weekend as he wants to oversee the trackside operation and the latest technology trends across the field.

“Adrian is splitting his time maybe 50/50 between Red Bull Advanced Technologies, with this Aston Martin project we've taken on, which is quite exciting. So designing a road car for half the week and designing a Formula One car for the other half of the week.”

“He's here this weekend to keep up to speed with trackside, with what's going on and it's always good to have him at an event,” concluded Horner.
